Asus starts selling Windows RT tablet

As techmeme reports, windows RT based tablet have started from asus global for $600, not still expected in asian region while launching it first in US and European markets. Windows RT is going to be something new to look about in tablets as microsoft tries to dominate OS market in tabs and smartphones. But pricing is one thing microsoft is going to take a beat against android.

While windows 8 pricing today was latest news, starting from $70 to full pro versions at $140 including media pack of it. So its now all public and open for sale. While Windows 7 (original) users will get update for $14 or INR 800 in india, stand alone cost will be as stated above. I have always been against these sort of paid updates which is nothing but one sort of making business where microsoft keep creating new OS and systems while intel and AMD guys keep rolling new gen. processor wile customers keep shelling for new PC every 2-3 years or so. That's why i have stick to my faulty compaq laptop whose even DVD ROM, 1 USB, wifi driver (for XP) not working. Plus one key gone (never used it) and one key keeps sticking like anything.

Why no one buys xps 13 model?

I am not even sure why dell continues to sell xps 13 model when people have choice to buy xps 14 model which has 3rd generation latest processor with base clock speed of 2.6 GHz and definite 3 MB cache memory. The xps 13 doesn't even have 3 MB cache memory. Odd but true, the price of 13 model is Rs. 1K or so more than 14 model ! xps 13 comes in sandy bridge processors while 14 has an option of 2 processors, one of 3 MB cache while other of 4 MB cache, both from Core i5 UVL chip.

The wireless in xps 13 is from Intel centrino Advanced N 6230. Sirish here says that Intel's R&D budget is more than whole of AMD's annual research budget. Plus there is more to customize in xps 14 than 13 as you can have a Nvidia GPU or additional 4 GB RAM. Both have the same chassis made from aluminium and carbon fibre body which make it much lighter.

Both come around Rs. 80K here in India if you buy from a verified dell store. The in stock items in store can save you 4-5K tax money also.

Chiclet keypad from dell inspiron models

I just love the feel of these key's used in dell laptops, specifically inspiron models. They are so cosy and comfortable that you feel like resting your hands on them for a while. They are well rounded and perfectly spaced. Although i am used to compact keypads, the one's used earlier in lenovo models, when thinkpad used to be popular known brand of it.

Some new laptops have been launched in india by dell which have v. good specs, Intel's processors and graphics card too. Price is like around Rs. 40-45 k for a decent spec model. Inspiron's new models like 14R or 15R have latest 3rd generation ivy bridge core processors and good thing is that you can always modify your requirements in terms of peripherals from dell shop.

Alienware gaming ones have one of the best fancy keyboards ever, they got a pattern of backlit light, let's say some part of keyboard in an orderly fashion is red lit while other is blue lit, some other parts is green lit. Although they are quietly costly, above 1 lac or so. But they got great GPU's.

Google to start owning hardware business, completes Motorola Mobility

As per latest news, Google has finally completed the acquisition process of Motorola Mobility Inc., the major arm of Motorola that produces Smartphones, tablets, bluetooth accessories and various other products for reportedly US$ 12.5 billion. This has been an big unusual acquisition for google because it is has never forayed so large in hardware producer market, generally it has forayed into software or online services market. Although this was obvious after Google fully acquired open source platform OS Android in 2005. Android was initially built from C, C++ and Java programming languages. With acquisition of Motorola Mobility, it will appease and further stronghold android based smartphone market. I am not sure whether this hand-over includes transfer of copyrights of various Motorola patents which is one large asset of Motorola. Also current CEO Sanjay Jha will step down once all legal formalities and nod from US and Canada government have been obtained.

USB 3.0 is backward compatible

USB 3.0 which is the successor of USB 2.0 in coming months, it is noteworthy to note that USB 3.0 really power much high transfer rate than its legacy USB 2.0. Although USB 3.0 has maximum of 5 GB/sec transfer rate and USB 2.0 480MBps, you don't actually get 10 times speed when you try doing it practically. You get about 3-4 times faster speed in USB 3.0 . USB 3.0 is rumored to be used on latest MacBook Pro which will be featuring 15 inch Retina display and 2 USB 3.0 ports.

The USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible so it supports legacy accessories and plugs, quite necessary in this fast pace changing technology times. Backward compatibility of USB 3.0 gives us great speed with no additional hassle at our end.
